FATALLY HURT IN ACCIDENT

MIKE HULTGREN OF BERESFORD LOST LIFE WEDNESDAY

Was Knocked Down and Run Over by a Truck Near Gravel, Pit Six Miles West of Hawarden.

Mike Hultgren of Beresford, a lifelong resident of Union county, was fatally injured shortly before noon Wednesday at a gravel pit about six miles west of Hawarden when a truck backed over him. Mr. Hultgren, who was employed as a checker on a road graveling project on the highway between Hawarden and Alcester, did not see the truck backing up and it struck him, fracturing his skull. He died about 40 minutes later without regaining consciousness. Ray Voegeli of Beresford was the driver of the truck that ran over Mr. Hultgren.

Funeral services will be held in the Union Creek Lutheran church, northwest of Akron, Saturday afternoon and burial will be there.

Mike Hultgren was the oldest child in the Mr. and Mrs. John Hultgren family, pioneer. residents of Union Creek, and was about 61 years of age. He was baptized and confirmed in the Union Creek Lutheran church, and later was married to Christina Carlson. For many years following their marriage they lived on the old Hultgren farm but a number of years ago they moved to Beresford.

He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters. The children are Julius and Milford Hultgren of the Akron vicinity; Clayton Hultgren; Mrs. Raymond Hamilton of Garland township, and Violet and Eldon at home in Beresford. He is also survived by one brother and sister, Elmer Hultgren and Mrs. Wm. Ericson of Akron.

Elmer Hultgren, a brother, is one of the Union county commissioners and was called to the .scene of .the accident as an official without knowing that it was his own brother who had been fatally injured. He had passed away before Commissioner Hultgren arrived.
