FORMER AKRON MAN IS CALLED
Oscar J. Smith Was Once Superintendent of the Akron Schools
The sad news was received by Mr. and Mrs. Art McConville, west of town, of the death of their brother-in-law, Oscar J. Smith, at San Pedro, Calif., April 30, 1930, after a long illness of heart trouble. He was a great sufferer during his last days.
When a boy, Mr. Smith came to Akron with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Smith, and they lived for many years in Union county, S. D., just accross the river from Akron. He completed his common school education in Akron and attended the Le Mars Normal college, ater becoming superintendent of the Akron schools and superintendent of the Akron schools and superintendent of schools of Union County. He was also superintendent of schools at Jefferson and Tea, S. D. Mr. Smith went west a few years ago for his health but steadily declined.
He was widely known and highly esteemed in this section, and a host of friends will regret to hear of his passing.
He is survived by three sons and two or three brothers in the west.
