DEATH CALLS MRS. MARTHA SMITH SUNDAY MORNING
Resided In Akron For Past Fifteen Years; Rites Held Wednesday
Mrs. Martha Smith, a resident of Akron for thepast fifteen years, died early Sunday morning May 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gerald F. Smith, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Smtih was born at Del Rapids, S. D., on December 14, 1880, and later lived at Howard, S. D. She attended All Saints' School, in Sioux Falls, after which she was employed as a typesetter on newspapers at Redfield and Platte, S. D., and while employed at the latter place she met Guy H. Smith, of Kimball, S. D., and they were married at Howard on December 25, 1900. Shortly after their marriage they purchased the Mt. Vernon News, at Mt. Vernon, S. D., and continured to published that newspaper until a few months before they moved to Akron in 1947. Her husband preceded her in death on December 8, 1950.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Gerald Smith, of Akron, and Mrs. Horace A. Brown, of Simsbury, Conn.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Charles R. Reynolds, of Windom, Minn., and Miss Patricia Brown, of Simsbury, Conn., and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held at wesley Methodist Church in Akron on Wednesday afternoon of this week, with Rev. C. L. Guinn officiating. Serving as pallbearers were J. Clifford Kennedy, Dr. C. R. Mason, Fay F. Kerr, Joe Dalton and Emery Tucker, of Akron, and Jake M. LaFoy, of Storm Lake, Ia. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
