DEATH COMES TO MRS. JOHN L. SMITH LAST THURSDAY

Last Rites Are Held Sunday For Esteemed Local Resident

Mrs. John L. Smith, a resident of this community for many years, passed away at her home five miles west of here in Union County, S. D., on Thursday, July 30, 1953, at the age of 63 years, 8 months, and 10 days. She had been in declining health for the past year, but the final summons came quite suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack.

Frances Farwell was born November 20, 1890, at DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of Ira and Marietta Rust Farwell. She came to Akron as a young girl to assist in the care of her aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Rust. It was in Akron that she met John L. Smith, and on June 18, 1913, they were united in marriage. To this union were born five children, Verda, Majorie, Doris, Wilford, and Eldon. She was received into membership in the Methodist church in Akron on May 23, 1909.

She will be remembered by her family and friends as a woman of kind, helpful and sympathetic nature, a devoted and loving wife and mother, and was held in high esteem for her many fne qualities by all who knew her.

Left to mourn her departure are her husband, John L. Smith; three daughters, Verda (Mrs. Reuben Bullis), of Flandreau, S. D.; Marjorie (Mrs. Benard Beaubien), of Sioux City; Doris (Mrs. Harold Campbell), of Akron; two sons, Wilford and Eldon Smith, of Akron; a brother, Wilbur Farwell, of Sioux City; ten grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in Wesley Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Donald R. James, the pastor. Mrs. Virginia Swift sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with accompainment by Mrs. Pearl Pollock.

Pallbearers were Dewey Maynard, Vernon Sayles, Porter Maynard, Elmo Fletcher, Robert Root, and Earl Burnight. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery.
