Note: Her mother's maiden name was Gerdes.

One of the saddest accidents we have been called upon to chronicle was the death of Esther Emily, the 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Beckman, four miles east of here, Monday. The house caught fire about 5 o'clock in the morning, and before the child could be rescued from her bed upstairs was so badly burned that she died about 2 p.m.

Rev. F. Meske, of Akron, conducted a brief service at the home Wednesday forenoon, after which the funeral was held in the German Lutheran church here. The remains were interred in Riverside Cemetery at Akron.

The bereaved parents, five sisters and one brother, have the sympathy of the community.
