Emory Betsworth

Cherokee Times: Death came to Emory Sylvester Betsworth, 77, at 3 p.m. Tuesday after a short sickness.

He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1898 When he came to the city to install the plumbing in Hotel Lewis. He was associated with Pete A. Swanson in the plumbing and heating business here from 1902 to 1933.

He was a member of Iowa Master Plumbers for 15 years and served as its president for two years and as a member of the board for 12 years.

Born in Le Mars, July 17, 1872, he was married to Katie Wegerslev of Alta, Dec.. 15, 1898. The family is at 428 Magnetic.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Whitman of Ft. Stockton, Texas; a son, Lloyd of Mission, Kan., and one brother, L. A. Betsworth of Fresno, Calif.

Funeral services were conducted at the Boothby funeral home Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. H.D. McCoy officiated. Burial was in the Le Mars city cemetery.

He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and of the chamber of commerce, I.O.O.F. Lodge. In the last organization he had held an office in the order up to colonel in the canton. He was He was chairman of the Sioux (unreadable) board for 12 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Betsworth celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 15, 1948.
