Jane Ryan Carpenter, wife of T. J. Carpenter, passed away at the Community hospital Sunday morning, after an illness of more than a year. Deceased was in the hospital for 9 months suffering with a broken hip which she received while doing her housework. Nine months ago she was working around home and took a fainting spell, falling against a chair, breaking her hip.

Mrs. Carpenter passed away at the advanced age of 83 years, 4 months and 14 days. Deceased was born in Dublin, Ireland on April 15, 1843, and came to this country at the age of 14 years. She came to this country with one brother and two sisters. Her parents came a year later, and the family settled at Boarding Town, N. J. She received part of her education in Ireton and the balance in Boarding Town. In the same years she came west to visit an aunt in Ogwego, Ill. Here she met T. J. Carpenter and was united in marriage to him on Feb. 12, 1864. Mr. Carppenter was in the Union army at this time but was home on this date\ recruiting for the regiment. After the war Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter settled on Oswego.

In the spring of 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter moved to Plymouth county settling on a farm in Union twp. Here they farmed for seven years, and purchased a farm in Henry twp. They worked this palace for a year, having to quit at this time, as Mrs. Carpenter was struck by lightening, which paralyzed her left side. Taking the doctor's advice they moved to Le Mars and have been living here ever since.

Five children were born to this union of which two are living. Those who survive are Dora McFarland of Colome, S. D.; Florence Kleinjan, of Gregory, S. D., and her faithful husband.

No funeral arrangements have been made, but it is thought the servies will be held on Wednesday of this week.

Deceased was a good member of the Presbyterian church, and a member of the W. R. C. She enjoyed the acquaintance of many friends, who join with the children and husband in mourning her loss. Mrs. Carpenter was a good neighbor and spent most of her life in the good of her home and her children.
