The remains of the late Mrs. M. A. Carpenter, who died very suddenly at her home in Cedar Rapids on Saturday arrived in Le Mars on Tuesday morning escorted by her son, Edward M. Carpenter and little grandson, Harold, and were met at the depot by a large number of friends.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist Church and was largely attended, Rev. G. G. Whitfield conducting the services. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The members of Le Mars Chapter No. 70 O. B. S., attended the funeral in a body, the deceased having been a member of that order.

Annie R. Lathrop was born in Syracuse, N. Y., May 1, 1849. She lived in that city with her relatives until she was married to M. A. Carpenter on May 22, 1873. It was during her early years at Syracuse that she found her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved much, in conversion, and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She moved with her husband to Cleveland, N. Y., later going to Clyde, N. Y. and then in 1890 they, with all their possessions, came west taking up their residence in this city, where Mr. Carpenter engaged in business for many years.

Her relations and friends in this city are many. One year ago last May, she heeded the call of duty and moved to Cedar Rapids to make a home for her son and his boy, Harold. During their residence in this city she was active in church work and very much devoted to her home and all its cares.

She held official relation with the Le Mars church a few years. She was a faithful devoted member of the church until her departure. Her devotion to her son in his bereavement and new responsibilities was very noticeable. She was a good, kind woman seeking ever to put herself second for the welfare of her home.

She suffered many years with asthma but was quite cheerful while visiting here recently. On Saturday afternoon she was feeling as well as usual but without a moments warning she was called away from the cares of earth to the joys of the other world.

She leaves a son, Edward M., and a grandson, Harold M. and a sister-in-law. Mrs. Tyler.
Many deeply sympathize with the bereaved ones.

She has gone to her rest in Jesus Christ who loved her much and whom she strove to serve faithfully.
