Elmer Ernst, 87, of Le Mars, died early Thursday, December 29, 2005 at his home in Le Mars.
Elmer A. Ernst was born Oct.11, 1918, in Mapleton, the son of Anton and Ellen (Sands) Ernst. He attended school in Mapleton. Elmer was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wanderscheid on March 25, 1940, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Elmer and Elizabeth farmed and lived in the Struble and Brunsville area of Plymouth County for many years. The couple retired from farming in 1980 and moved to Le Mars.
Elmer enjoyed fishing and camping with his family; his horse "Cheyenne" and his dog "Skippy." He loved spending time with his grand children and reminiscing about the "good old days." He enjoyed listening to his Daniel O'Donnell CD's. He was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth of Le Mars; three children, Jim and his wife, Marlene Ernst of Le Mars, Ellen and her husband, Denny Weber of Council Bluffs, and Lori and her husband, Mike Feller of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren: Tricia Ernst, Ken Ernst and his wife Cindy, Deanna Burmakow and her husband Donnie, Kevin Ernst and his wife Angela, a special family friend Mary Bauer, Lisa Dugeale and her husband Dennis, Brenda Oestreich, Mike Schroeder, Chris Feller, John Feller and his fiancée Brandy Garner, Melissa Feller, Jasmine Feller, Megan Feller, Allie Feller, Celena Feller, and Marriah Feller; 10 great-grandchildren: Jaime Weitl, Steve Schwarz, Scott Schwarz, Kilie Dugdale, Ty Dugdale, Ryan Oestreich, Nicholas Oestreich, Brittani Plendl, Allison Ernst, and Kaitlen Ernst; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a parish rosary at 4: p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service, all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Ernst, Kevin Ernst, Steve Schwarz, Scott Schwarz, John Feller, Mike Schroeder, and Donnie Burmakow.
A memorial has been established for Hospice of Siouxland.
