Dean E. Granquist, 93, of Verona, Wis., died on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Willow Pointe Memory Care.
Dean was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Wayne, Neb., to Edward and Verna (Powers) Granquist.
He graduated from Wayne High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran during World War II from July 1942 until Nov. 9, 1945.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen B. Martens, on April 30, 1944, in Melvin. They farmed and raised their family in Le Mars for 27 years.
After farming, they relocated to Bella Vista, Ark., for 30 years where he was employed for the city of Bella Vista.
In 2003, he moved to Verona, Wis.
He was an avid golfer and a sports enthusiast.
Dean was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Verona, Wis., and a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He was also a charter member of United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; his children: Judith (Robert) Dettwiler, of Verona, Wis., Carol (Mark) Borglum, of St. Paul, Minn., Dennis (Elizabeth) Granquist, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Susan (Fred) Sitzmann, of Rochester, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Lutt; a sister-in-law, Bette Granquist; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Cole Schotanus; a great-granddaughter, Macie Kate Majeres; a brother, Joe Granquist and a sister, Myla McElhose.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church in Verona, Wis., with the Rev. Peter Narum officiating. A fellowship and gathering will follow at the church. Graveside service and full military honors by the Le Mars American Legion will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. A gathering and fellowship will follow after the gravesite services at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home, 500 N 8th St., Mt. Horeb, Wis., is serving the family.
