Ella Frerichs, 93, of Akron, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at her home in Akron.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Minister Joel Nye will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014, with the family present after 5:30 p.m., and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
Ella Katheryn Marie Beeck was born May 13, 1921 on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Meta (Mangelson) Beeck. Ella was raised in Plymouth County where she attended country school.
She was united in marriage to Edwin H. Frerichs on October 13, 1938 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron. She and Edwin farmed east of Akron for many years. Ella also worked for Otis Radio in Hawarden and later as a custodian at Akron-Westfield Schools. In December of 1991, they moved into Akron. Edwin passed away May 13, 1993 in Akron.
Ella was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. She was also a member of “Tops Club” for many years, having earned many pins and awards. Through the years, Ella enjoyed working outside tending to her flowers. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her son: Randy (Charlene) Frerichs of Akron, IA; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one arriving soon; a daughter in law: Mary Jean Frerichs of Akron, IA; a son in law: John Hill of Excelsior Springs, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; a son: Gerald Frerichs; a daughter: Patricia Hill; 4 sisters: Ida Goergen, Rose Feauto, Lillian Albert, and Elsie Frerichs; and 3 brothers: Paul Beeck, Edward Beeck, and Chris Beeck.
