Nonagenarian Is Claimed By Death
Mrs. John Ross Was Early Settler in Crathorne Vicinity

Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Brodie and Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Robertson and Will Brodie, of this city, motored to Wessington, S. D., Wednesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. John Ross, a former resident of Crathorne, Plymouth county, who died July 20.

Mrs. Ross was the mother of Mrs. Robertson and Mrs. Brodie and is well remembered by older residents of this vicinity. She had attained the age of ninety-two years.

Elizabeth McLaughlin was born April 28, 1842, at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and was a descendant of hardy pioneers of Irsh and Scotch extraction, who early peopled the western hemisphere. She grew to young womanhood in her native place and was married to John Ross in 1868.

Twelve children were born to their union. Four of them, John, William, Mrs. Mary Moat, of Saskatchewan, Cnada, and Mrs. Herbert McGilvray, of Wessington, S. D, preceded her in death.

Eight children living are Alex Ross, of Vancouver, B. C.; Mrs. Duncan Robertson, of Le Mars; Robert Ross, of wessington, S. D.; Mrs. M. F. Brodie, of Le Mars; Mrs. A. Manker, of Santa Ana, Calif.; Donald and Angus Ross and Mrs. Will McGilvray, of Wessington, S.D. She also leaves a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Ross died fourteen years ago.

Early Settlers Here
Mr. and Mrs. Ross came to Le Mars in 1881 and settled on a farm near Crathorne. In 1889 they moved to Louisiana, where they remained for three years and then returned to Plymouth county. About thirty years ago they moved to South Dakota and engaged in farming.

The funeral was largely attended by old friends and neighbors and the remains laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Rose Hill cemetery near Wessington.
