James R. Gardner Dies at Merrill
Onced Farmed Near LeMars —Ran Filing Station At Merrill
James Robert Gardner, Merrill oil station operator, died Sunday at his home in Merrill, after a lingering sickness, at his home in Merrill.
Funeral services will be held at Luken's funeral home in LeMars on Wednesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Merrill cemetery. Luken's , are in charge of arrangements. Pall bearers will be Dave Woodley, John Rush, Elmer Jessen, Walter Elskamp, Henry Kling, and Wm. Dirks, Rev. John Voverka will officiate.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank Mattas of Hinton, and a son, Vernon S. of LeMars. One son, Floyd Herbert, preceded him in death.
James R. Gardner was born at Park Hill, Canada, August 1, 1875. He came to LeMars from Canada with his parents, and he farmed here until 1920, when he moved to Merrill. He operated the oil station there until shortly before his death. His wedding took place at LeMars August 17, 1888. Mrs. Gardner's maiden name was Clarabelle Stephenson.
