Former Mechanics Teacher Claude Rickabaugh Dead
Claude (Pat) Rickabaugh, 91, longtime LeMars resident, died Tuesday (Aug. 3, 1976) at Floyd Valley hospital in LeMars after a brief illness. Although he had suffered a stroke some months ago, he was recuperating until he was stricken last Sunday and was hospitalized that day.
Mr. Rickabaugh was well known auto mechanic and bicycle repairman for many years. He had taught auto mechanics in LeMars schools.
He was born Oct. 8, 1884, at Primghar. He had lived in Lake Park and Estherville before coming to LeMars in 1912. His marriage to Hazel Palmer took place June 1, 1907, at Spirit Lake.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mauer funeral chapel, with Rev. Robert Hanthorn of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home.
Survivors are six sons, Loren, LeMars; Jack, Minnetonka, Minn.; Dale, Claypool, Ariz.; Perry, Concrete, Wash.; Max, Sheridan, Wyo., and George of Lumas, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Melba) Mack, Sioux City; Mrs. Andrew (Madge) Oliver, Sheridan, Wyo.; and Mrs. Wendell (Patricia) Schipper, Hubert, N.C.
There are 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Pearl DeMuth, Milford, also survives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, in 1960; a son, Donald in 1940 and by two brothers and two sisters, one of whom was a twin.
