Joseph Becker dead at age 93

Joseph Becker, 93, rural Merrill, lifelong resident of Plymouth county, died Friday at Floyd Valley hospital after a very short illness. He was hospitalized a day.

Mr. Becker was born March 9, 1874, in Lincoln township near Hinton and had lived on the same farm for 59 years. His marriage to Christina Schneider took place July 12, 1889, at the rural Hinton farm home. His parents were the late Fridolin and Katerina Hoefte Becker.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Melbourne Evangelical United Brethren church. Rev. Dale Curch will officiate and burial will be in Floyd Valley cemetery, Merrill.

He was a member of the Melbourne church and Le Mars Elks lodge.

Survivors are three daughters; Dorothea, Alice and Alma, all of rural Merrill: two half-brothers, William and George Becker of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Gene of rural Hinton, Mrs. Harold Albert, rural Le Mars, and Mrs. James Nanninga, Orange City, and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1918: a son, Raymond in January, 1968; a grandson: four brothers and five sisters.
