JOHN SPERLING DIES
Old Resident of Le Mars is Called HomeJohn Sperling, who has been for the past quarter century a resident of Le Mars, died Wednesday of this week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Bohl, in Milwaukee, Wis., at the advanced age of 88 years and 2 months.
Mr. Sperling was born in Mecklenburg-Schwerein, Germany, in February, 1823, and grew to young manhood and married in that country. In 1854 he came to the United States and settled in Milwaukee, where his wife died shortly after their arrival. In 1856 he was married to Frederica Hansen, and 1877 they moved to Le Mars. Mrs. Sperling died eight years ago and since that time Mr. Sperling has made his home with his children. He lived in recent years with his daughter, Mrs. Henry King, and went to Milwaukee last winter to visit a daughter a short time before Mrs. King's death. He suffered a slight stroke of paralysis about two months ago and this with the growing infirmities of age confined him to his bed and hastened his death.
Mr. Sperling was well known by all the older citizens of Le Mars, who held him in highest regard as a citizen, neighbor and friend. He is survived by one son, Chas. Sperling, of Spokane, Wash., and two daughters, Mrs. Hannah Bohl, of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Carrie Gralapp, who lives in Idaho.
While the telegram announcing Mr. Sperling's death was indefinite as to the place of interment it is thought the body will be brought here for burial beside that of his wife. If this is done the funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the German Methodist church, of which he was a member, Rev. Thiel officiating.
