Margaret P. Peters

Margaret Pauline Peters, 90, of Le Mars died Sunday, April 16, 1995, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services were held Wednesday, April 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church ELCA with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Merrill, under direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Peters was born Oct. 2, 1904, in Johnson Township on the family farm, the daughter of Bernhard H. and Pauline (Becker) Borchers. She was baptized Oct. 23, 1904, and confirmed April 13, 1919, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill. She attended country school at Liberty Consolidated School and Le mars High School. She later attended Western Union College. She worked for Hentges Clothing Store in Le Mars as a bookkeeper. On Aug. 21, 1928, she married Oscar Henry Peters at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. The couple lived in Le Mars until 1933 when they moved to a farm west of Le Mars, near Adaville. They farmed there until his death Aug. 18, 1965. She moved to Le Mars in November 1965. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Le Mars Hatchery and later Le Mars Transfer. She had also been an Avon representative for many years.

Mrs. Peters was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church ELCA. She had previously been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill where she had been the organist for many years. She had served as volunteer organist for Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in later years. She was a member of the Garden Club for many years. She enjoyed tatting and writing poetry.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Lois and Robert Lancaster of Le Mars and Joyce and Don Lake of Le mars; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Borchers and Katherine Ohlrichs; and two brothers, George and Herman, who died as a child.
