Katherine M. Friedrich, 86, of rural Akron, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services were held Friday, May 17 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron, with the Rev. Robert Fedde officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars was in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Marie Popken was born Nov. 21, 1909, on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County, to George and Hilka (Kruse) Popken. She married Herman Friedrich in December of 1929.

Mrs. Friedrich had been an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors Include two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Linda Friedrich of Norfolk, Va., and Arthur and Sharon Friedrich of Rock Valley; two grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and a brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister. Anna Molzen; and three brothers, Carl, Jack and Herman Popken.
