TWO LOCAL PEOPLE ARE SUMMONED
Last Rites for Bert Parker and John Eltjes Are Held This Week

John Eltjes, 75, well known resident of northwestern Plymouth county for many years, died at the Akron Hospital, Friday, March 31, 1939, following a brief illness caused by influenza and infirmities of age.

Mr. Eltjes was born in Germany, May 2, 1864, and as a child came to the United States with his parents, locating in Illinois. When a young man he came to Iowa and lived at Ackley before coming to Plymouth county. He was employed as a farm laborer in Preston and Grant townships, where he was widely known and liked. For the past eighteen years he made his home with his nephew, Herman Weyen, in Preston township. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Gerdes, of Le Mars, and Mrs. John J. Schluter, of Madison, Minn., and two brothers-in-law, John Weyen, of Grant township, and Laurin McGilvray, of Wolsey, S. D. His mother, Mrs. Watje Eltjes, died in 1920.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Herman Weyen residence and services were conducted at Christ church, Mammen, Rev. Fred Bunge officiating. Interment was in the Grant township cemetery.
