Nicholas J. Lauters, 79, Remsen, died Monday (Jan. 1, 1973) at Floyd Valley hospital after a long illness.

He had been hospitalized since last August.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. P. Schultes officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Mary's cemetery under direction of the Fisch funeral home.

Parish rosary will be at 8 p.m. and Knights of Columbus rosary at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Lauters was born March 1, 1893, at Oyens, the son of the late Peter and Jennie (Forette) Lauters.

He married Helena Nothem Feb. 9, 1915, at Remsen.

The couple farmed near Remsen until 1944 when they retired and moved into Remsen.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Lauters was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife. Helena of Remsen; five daughters, Mrs. Rae (DeLoris) Sjostrom of Oswego, Ore., Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Johnson of Redwood Falls, Minn., Mrs. Wayne (Jeanette) Delperdang of Granville, Mrs. Eugene (Cloette) Kieffer of Stamford, Conn., Mrs. Robert (Laura) Langel of Le Mars, four sisters, Mrs. Nick Hatz, Mrs. Gordon Tritz and Mrs. Mathew Hatz, all of Remsen, and Mrs. Francis Nothem of Sioux City; a brother. Ray Lauters of Marcus, and 25 grandchildren.
