Vera J. Elsen

Vera J. Elsen, 85, a Le Mars native and lifelong resident, died Wednesday, February 4, 1998, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a lengthy illness.

The former Vera Roberts was born March 10, 1912 in Le Mars, the daughter of Alex and Dora (DeYoung) Roberts. She grew up in Le Mars and attended public schools. On June 25, 1949, she married Karl Elsen in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Le Mars following their marriage.

She was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Junior Vaughn and his wife, Carleene, of Sioux City; a daughter, Barbara Steeg and her husband, Ed, of Le Mars; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Daryl Peterson of Volin, S.D.; a sister, Helen Applegate of Banning, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, LeRoy Vaughn; a daughter, Dorothy Peterson, a granddaughter, Laurie Vaughn; a grandson, Tyler Vaughn; three brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars, with the Rev. Bill Skinner and the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
