Robert "Bruce" Brodie, 66, of 2301 South Sherman, Sioux Falls, S.D. died Sunday, August 22, 1993, at Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Falls, after a four-month illness of cancer.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Methodist church in Sioux Falls with the Rev. Donna Kjonaas officiating. A private interment will precede the service in Woodlawn cemetery in Sioux Falls. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Bruce was born Decemkber 19, 1926, in Le Mars, Iowa to Robert B. and Myrna O. (Richey) Brodie. He attended high school in Le Mars, Iowa and graduated from the Akron high school in 1944. Following graduation he entered the Navy V-12 program, and after his discharge, attended a radio school in Tulsa, Okla., where he received his radio engineer's license. He worked for radion stations in Sioux Falls and Mitchell, S.D., as an engineer. He managed the Warren Radio Supply in Sioux City from 1953 to 1965 when they moved to Sioux Falls and started Brodie's Certified Appliance with stores on Eighth St. and in the Western Mall. He sold the business to Karl's Appliance in 1987 and retired.
He was a member of the Shrine, Elks Lodge, Rotary and Kiwanis organizations.
He married L. Phyllis Albertson Sept. 17, 1950, in Sioux Falls. She died August 21, 1992 while they were vacationing in Stockholm, Sweden.
The couple traveled the world extensively throughout their marriage. Bruce enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. He held a private pilot's license most of his adult life.
He is survived by a daughter, Roberta and her husband, Kevin Barry of Hawthorne Woods, Ill.; two sons, Brian and his wife Linda Brodie and Craig Brodie, all of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Matthew and Timothy Barry and Aaron and Scott Brodie; his mother Myrna Brodie of Sioux City; one brother, Malcom Brodie and his wife, Beverly of Alron; and three nieces, Kathlyn Saienga of Akron, Karen Andrew of Washington, Iowa and Kim Brodie of Salem, Mass.He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, and his father, Robert and a son, Gregory in infancy.
