ESTEEMED CITIZEN DIES FOLLOWING A LONG ILLNESS

Last Rites Are Held For L. C. Hitzemann Sunday Afternoon

Louis C. Hitzemann, a well known and highly esteemed resident of Akron, passed away at his home here on Friday, January 27, 1939. He had been in declining health for the past seven years. His condition becoming more serious, he was taken to the Lutheran hospital, Sioux City, on January 17, and received treatment there eight days, when he was brought back home to await the final summons. He attained the age of 62 years, 1 month and 23 days.

Louis Charles Hitzemann, the son of Henry and Dorothea Hitzemann, was born December 4, 1876, at Lowden, Cedar county, Iowa. He was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran church at Lowden and was confirmed in the Grant township Lutheran church, in Plymouth county, April 10, 1892. With his parents, he came to western Plymouth county, Iowa, where they lived on a farm until he was fourteen years of age. They then moved to Akron, where he had since resided. On August 1, 1906, he was united in marriage with Winifred Clementson. To this union was born a daughter, Lois. Mr. Hitzemann was employed in a meat market here by his brother-in-law, Wm. Simeon, for a number of years. He was also employed in a meat market at Hull, Iowa, for a time, until he began the barber business here with his brother George, and continuede for a period of twenty years.

"Louie," as his friends always called him, was a membrer of the Akron fire department for many years, having served as its chief for a considerable time. Of upright and industrious habits, he was a man whom everyone liked because of his pleasant and cheerful disposition.

Those who mourn his departure are not confined to the relatives but include his neighbors and a legion of friends. The near relatives are his wife and a duaghter, Lois; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Whitehouse, of Sioux City, and Mrs. Emma Reemts, of Akron, and two brothers, August and Herman Hitzemann, of Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the family home. Rev. J. F. Moore, of the M. E. church, spoke words of comfort and hope. Two dcuets, "Crossing the Bar" and "Where Jesus Is," were beautifully sung by Mary Burket and Kathlyn Moore, with Mrs. W. J. Brunner as accompanist.

The pallbearers were Miles Cunningham, Donald Ross, U. G. Rhodes, Del. Waterbury, Dick Bohlken and W. E. Mellen. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives and friends who came from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Will Whitehouse, Mrs. Mabel Hitzemann, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hitzemann, Mr. and mrs. Clifford Hitzemann, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. B. Clementson and daughter, Darlene; Mr. and Mrs. Jules Clementson, Herman Ervin and Mr. and Mrs. Shipley, all of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Stoddard, Leland Stoddard, Misses Elsie and Jessie Sage and Mr. Howdle, of Parker, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Stoddard, of Harley, S. D.
