GEORGE HELD
George W. Held, 88, of Kingsley died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley. George was born August 28, 1914, the son of Fred and Garcia Belle Held. He attended Hinton Public High School graduating in 1932. On February 21, 1939, he married Bertha Rosenmerkel at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Hinton and Kingsley area until the spring of 1976, when they retired. They moved to Le Mars in the fall of 1976. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hinton, where he had served as chairman of the congregation trustee and had served on the church finance committee. He also served as a director of the Farmers Coop Board at Hinton for three years and as president of the board for 18 years. In the spring of 1978, the couple moved from Le Mars to Bella Vista Ark., where they purchased a home. They joined the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista in 1985. They lived in Arkansas until November 1996, when they moved back to Kingsley where they become members of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Bertha died July 20, 2001, at Kingsley. George continued to live at his Kingsley home until Dec. 1, 2002, when he entered the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center. Survivors include a sister Florence of Hinton, a brother Clarence Held and his wife Fern of Hinton. Preceded him in death, his parents, his wife Bertha, two brothers Frederick Held and Wayne Held and a sister Blanche Reynolds. Funeral services were at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Burial in Kingsley Cemetery.
