HOLD LAST RITES FOR MRS. W. B. ROSS FRIDAY MORNING
Esteemed Akron Woman Spent Most Of Her Life In This Community
The death of Mrs. W. B. Ross, a well-known and esteemed resident of this community, occurred Tuesday forenon, November 27, 1951, at her home, northest of town, after a prolonged illness at the age of 70 years, 9 months, and 18 days.
Mary Ellen Neary, daughter of Patrick and Bridget Neary, was born February 9, 1881, on their homestead in Union county, South Dakota. She attended country grade school there and completed high school at Parkson, S. D., after moving there with her parents. She then attended State Normal Teachers College at Mitchell, S. D., after which she taught school in various South Dakota counties. She was later employed as a bookkeeper at Harvey, North Dakota. Later during the homestead act, in company with several other unmarried girls, she proved up on a homestead in Lyman county, South Dakota. Returning to Akron upon her parents' return to this place, she took a position as bookkeeper in the general store of Paul Wendt.
She was united in marriage with William B. Ross on June 12, 1912, at St. Patrick's Catholic church, the Catholic Women's League and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was held in high esteem by everyone who knew her for her many fine qualities of heart and mind.
Left to mourn her departure are he husband, William; three sons and two daughters, Leo J. Ross, of Sioux City; Lois M. Lipsmire, of Jacksonville, Ill.; Robert W. Ross, of Williston, N. D.; Ethel Parisi, of San Francisco, Calif., and Raymond G. Ross; of Bangor, Maine; also by two fosterchildren, Helen Schmidt, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Melvern C. Ross, of Akron, and three brothers, Joseph W. Neary, of Akron; Edward Neary, of Beresfor, S. D., and Martin W. Neary, of San Francisco, Calif.
Funeral services were held in St. Patrick's Catholic church last Friday morning at 9:00 o'clock, Rev. Fr. J. G. Skahill officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
Relatives present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ross and son, Tommy, Sioux City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gene E. Lipsmire and son Bill, Jacksonville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ross, Williston, N. D.; Mrs. Ethel Parisi and daughter, Mary Ellen, San FRancisco, Calif.; Raymond G. Ross, Bangor, Maine; Edward Neary, Beresford, S. D.; Mr. and MRs. William Neary, Sheldon, Iowa; Georg Maxwell, Omaha, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Neary, Vermillion, S. D., and Miss Helen Neary, Sioux Falls, S. D. Among the friends were: Mr. Fred Brunk, Sheldon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Vince Feauto, Kingsley, Iowa.
