James E. Ross Killed While Out Shooting

Gun Catches In Barbed Wire Fence And Is Discharged

James E. Ross, 25, young farmer in Hancock township was killed Wednesday afternoon by the accidental discharge of a shotgun while he was out hunting.

Hawks have been killing chickens on the farm where he lived with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. amos Ross, and young Ross left the house about 4:30 taking the gun along to get a shot at the hawks circling in the vicinity.

Occupants of the house heard a shot about 5 o'clock. An hour or two later as the youth did not return at chore time his parents became uneasy.

Some time later his body was wound under a fence, the shot gun lying near by. It is believed the trigger of the gun caught in a wire as he was crawling through a fence. The charge of shot lodged in his throat.

Dorner Is Notified

S. H. Luken of Le Mars county coroner, was notified of the tragedy and went out to investigate.

James E. Ross was born March 19, 1914, in Woodbury county and when a year old came with his parents to Plymouth County.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ross, and his grandmother, Mrs. Emma Ross.
