Obituary

Thomas A. Ross was born in Union county, near Jefferson, S.D., December 12, 1871, the oldest son of Duncan Jr. and Martha Smith Ross. His parents moved to a farm in hancock township, Plymouth County, Iowa, in the spring of 1879. Mr. Ross attended the public schools, later graduated from the School of Law at Drake University, Des Mones, Iowa in 1900. He did not practice law except in assisting neighbors with estate and other problems, in his home, as he preferred farming. He was active in school offices for 60 years and had a life membership in the PTA, having been a member for over 50 years. He was a member of Land mark Lodge, No. 103, A.F. & A.M. for 72 years. He also belonged to the Shrine and Consistory at Sioux City and the Eastern Star chapter at Akron.

On December 25, 1918, Mr. Ross and Magdalena Kundert were married. She passed away July 15, 1945. He continued to make his home in Hancock Township until he was forced by ill health to enter the Akron Nursing Home in Akron in December, 1966, where he passed away November 2, 1969.
He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Florence banks, of Westfield, Iowa, and one brother, Amos D. Ross, of Jefferson, S. D.

Hwas preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Congregational church, in Westfield, with Rev. Michael connor officiating.
Burial was in Logan Park cemetery, Sioux City, under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.
