Edward Hoffman

Edward "Dick" Hoffman, 67, Elk Point, died Wednesday evening (Nov. 21, 1979) at an Elk Point nursing home of a long illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. November 24 in Immunuel Lutheran church. The Rev. Marvin Ketterling officiated. Burial was in the Elk Point cemetery.

Mr. Hoffman was born Feb. 5, 1912, at Westfield, Iowa. He married Ella Howey July 23, 1932, at Elk Point, and he had lived at Elk Point since his marriage.

Mr. Hoffman operated a service station and cafe at Elk Point until his retirement in 1974. He had been a volunteer fireman 15 years and was active in the Elk Point basebal program 15 years. He also served on the city council six years. Mr. Hoffman was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Mrs. Hoffman died Dec. 17, 1965, at Elk Point.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald W. of Elk Point and Edward R. "Dick" of Canton; two daughters, Mrs. Darmon (Kay) Straum and Mrs. John (Shirley) Larsen, both of Elk Point; a brother, Leonard of Loomis, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Gagnor of Monterey Park, Calif., and Mrs. Leona Lafferty of Elk Point; a half-brother, Robert Hoffman of Sioux City; two half-sisters, Mrs. Irene Prince of Sioux City and Mrs. Liz Studer of Rockfor, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
