David A. Woodley, Former Merrill Man, Died Last Saturday
David A. Woodley, who served many years as school janitor and town marshal in Merrill, died Saturda, January 29, in an Iowa City hospital after four months illness.
David Arthur Woodley was born May 17, 1882, at Cheorokee, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Woodley. He was married at Cherokee, November 19, 1905, to Fannie Louise Simmons, who survives him with the following children; Mrs. Ora Tullis, Merrill; Mrs. Marjorie Eberhard, Mrs. Irma Keller, Mrs. Doris Clark, Mrs. Leona Leete, Mrs. Joyce Lanagan, Miss Beverly Woodley, all of Sioux City; four sons, Merlin B., Milo H., Chester E. and Elwyn D. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Kinney of Cherokee and Mrs. Lola Church of Smithland; two brothers, Richard Woodley of Cherokee, and M. B. Woodley of Lorimor, Iowa, 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
David Woodley moved to Plymouth county, in 1914 and farmed for a time in Liberty township before locating in Merrill, where he was town marshal for three years before becoming the school janitor, which position he held until he moved to Sioux City four years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, at the Nelson-Berger Funeral Home, Sioux City, with Rev. George Dunn officiating and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Sioux City.
The pall bearers will be Earl Spies, Tom Bogner, Horace Horton, Leo Mansfield, EArl Schindel, and Elmer Jessen.
