SANBORN, Iowa -- Audrey Swalley, 82, of Sanborn passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn, with the Rev. Gregg Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today in Roseland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn.

Audrey Maxine (Milner) Swalley, the daughter of Richard and Florence (Hathaway) Milner, was born June 28, 1926, in Westfield, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. She later received her teaching certificate from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

On June 8, 1946, she married Charles Jon Swalley at Adeville United Brethren Church in Merrill, Iowa. The couple spent the majority of their married life in Sanborn. It was there that they raised their three boys, Michael, Mark and Kevin.

Through the years, she was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, working tirelessly for the church family. She was a past member of the Sanborn Library board, the Mi'ono Club and two bridge clubs. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed crafts, cake decorating and helping others in any way that she could. She took great pride and joy in attending the many sporting events for the children and later her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and their families, Mark and Jana Swalley of Centennial, Colo., and Kevin and Lisa Swalley of Grundy Center, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, LeAnn Swalley of Sheldon, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her stepmother, Ann Milner of Primghar, Iowa; two sisters, Priscilla Elgersma of Primghar and Janet (Jerry) Higgins of San Antonio; a stepbrother, Robert (Ronda) Milner of Sioux City; a half sister, Patricia Milner of Sheldon, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck; a son, Mike; and an infant sister, Wilma Joyce Milner.

Pallbearers will be Howard Postma, Leonard Postma, Ray Huibregtse, Ron Schott, Jim Cravens and Cloy Albert. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brad Swalley, Scott Swalley, Jenifer McNally, Bryan Swalley, Zach Swalley, Zach Mackie and Mackenzie Mackie.

The family suggests that memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
