Le Mars Daily SentinelGladys L. Kolker, 82, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Gladys Leona Huls was born Feb. 8, 1932, near Craig, to John E. and Mildred (Albers) Huls. As a baby she was baptized at her parents' home and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township. She attended country school near her home in Grant Township.
Gladys was united in marriage to Dale Kolker on Feb. 12, 1953, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township. Gladys and Dale made their home in Le Mars. They were blessed with 10 children.
Aside from being a homemaker, Gladys had worked for 19 years at Plymouth Manor Care Center as the laundry supervisor. She later worked for three years as the laundry supervisor at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center.
Gladys had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars since she and Dale were married in 1953.
She enjoyed playing cards, listening to polka music and dancing.
Her greatest joy in life was family. She enjoyed visits from the children, grandchildren, and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and baking deserts for her family.
Survivors include seven children: Linda Alexander and her husband Allen, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Roger Kolker and his wife Andrea, of Mobile, Ala., Gary Kolker and his wife Sue, of Le Mars, Myron Kolker and his friend Margie Perry, of Le Mars, Janice Gienger and her husband Greg, of Omaha, Neb., Arlan Kolker and his wife Susan, of Lawton, and Paul Kolker and his wife Raquel, of Le Mars; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Kolker of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Melvin and Eileen Kolker of Merrill; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Mildred (Albers) Huls; husband Dale on Aug. 27, 1997; three sons: Darrell, Stanley, and Bruce in infancy; a granddaughter, Crystal Kolker; a sister, Mabel (Frank) VanAsselt; a brother-in-law, Eugene Kolker; and a special friend, Don Boetger.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Jean Ziettlow officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with family present after 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Kolker, Adam Kolker, Matthew Kolker, Mark Kolker, Elizabeth Gienger, and Allison Kolker.
Honorary casket bearers will be Ashley Kolker, Marce Kolker, Katelyn Kolker, Andrew Kolker, Sarah Sykes, Kimberly Kolker, Haley Kolker, Carter Kolker, Izaak Kolker, Dale Kolker, Logan Kolker, Adelynn Kolker, and Jackson Kolker.
