Amanda Howe, 99, of Le Mars and formerly of Hinton died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Amanda Ida Emma Ideker was born June 15, 1902, on a farm near Hinton, the daughter of Fremont and Marie (Heimgartner) Ideker. She was raised and educated in the Hinton area and assisted her family on the farm. On March 7, 1923, Amanda and George Howe were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran church rural Hinton. The couple made their home on a farm near Hinton where they lived for a number of years before retiring. Mr. Howe died November 20, 1979. Amanda remained on the farm until moving to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars on August 6, 1997. Amanda was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church rural Hinton. She taught Sunday school and had been active in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Farm Bureau, Lamplighters and the Hinton Senior Center. Survivors include three sons Lloyd of Hinton; Lowell of Phoenix, Arizona; and Loren and his wife Bernice of Goehner, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. She preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, two great-grandchildren Elizabeth Cummins and Christopher Baker, two brothers Harvey and Edward, two daughters-in-law Mavis and Shirley. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial in the church cemetery.
