Charles Whitaker

Funeral services were held for Charles Heyward Whitaker, 71, Ferris, Ill., Thursday, august 14 at Lamorte Funeral Home, Hamilton, Ill., with the Rev. Virgil V. Reeve officiating. Burial was in Moss Ridge cemetery, Carthage.

Mr. Whitaker died Monday, August 11, 1975, in St. Joseph hospital, Keokuk, Ia., after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 28, 1904, in Durham, Mo., a son of James Edward and Cora Lee Lemen Whitaker. He married Dorothy L. McCorkell Aug. 1, 1928, in Akron, Iowa. He was a member of the Akron Baptist church where he taught Sunday school many years before moving to Ferris 20 years ago and taught Sunday school in the Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife, eight sons, Melvin, Kenneth, and Jerry of Hamilton, Ill., Billy Joe, Carthage, Ill., Michael, Basco, Ill., Dennis, Macomb, Ill., Lowell, Sulphur, La.; and Stanley, Rodney, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three brothers, James R. of Springdale, Ark., BAsil and Howard C. of Ewing, Mo.; and a step-mother, Mrs. Elsie Whitaker of Bowen. A son, Howard, and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Nielsen of Akron and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mentzer of Le Mars attended funeral services for brother-in-law.
