FORMER AKRON WOMAN IS CALLED TO FINAL REWARD

Last Rites for Mrs. James E. Whitaker Held Last Sunday Afternoon

Mrs. James E. Whitaker, a former well known resident of Akron, passed away at her home, east of Durham, Mo., April 17, 1937, following a long period of illness, aged 58 years, 5 months, and 13 days.

Cora Lemen was born in Lewis county, Missouri, November 4, 1878. She was united in marriage with James E. Whitaker on November 4, 1899. She had spent all of her life in the state of Missouri, except fifteen years she and her husband lived in Akron, returning to Durham about five years ago.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons, Eugene and Howard, of Chicago, Ill.; Basil, of Akron, Iowa; Raymond, of Davenport, Iowa, and Charley, of Durham; by six brothers John and James Lemen, of Durham; Lloyd Lemen, of Akron, Iowa; Bert and Claud Lemen, Quincy, Illinois; Lyman Lemen, of Anna Lemen, of Akron, Iowa, and by fifteen grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Akron friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Possessing a kind of friendly disposition, Mrs. Whitaker was well liked by all who knew her. She was a member of the Durham Baptist church.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Durham Baptist church, conducted by Rev. N. S. Dunham. Burial was in the Dunham cemetery.

Akron relatives who went to Durham, Mo., to attend the funeral were; Basil Whitaker, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lemen, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fletcher and Mrs. Anna Lemen.
