Dorothy Mae (Locer) Tone, 94, formerly of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, in Bozeman, Mont.

Dorothy was born in Le Mars, Dec. 1, 1917, the daughter of Sid and Bessie Locer. She spent the majority of her life in Le Mars, but moved to Montana in 1971 to finish her college education, be closer to her children, and enjoy living in the mountains, which had been her dream since reading "Heidi" as a child.

After graduating with honors from Montana State University, she taught English and was the school librarian in Darby, Savage, and finally, Saco, Mont.

In retirement she had been active in the Belgrade Community Church and continued her education by taking classes in calligraphy and watercolor painting, which she later taught to both children and adults in her home.

When her children gave her a computer, she learned to e-mail friends and family, get the scores and listen to ball games, challenge the computer in Scrabble and crossword puzzles, and kept up on some of the news from Iowa by reading the Le Mars Daily Sentinel and Sioux City Journal online.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Bill) Stanton, Dan (Michele) Tone, Paul (Mary) Tone, Tim (Ann) Tone, Dave Tone, Mary (Van) Feldner, and Leah Tone; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Tone; infant daughter, Martha; son, Jim; sister, Lois Jimenez; and brother, Harvey Locer.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of local arrangements.
