Mrs. Walter (Hedvig) Blackmore,76 longtime Merrill resident, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 1978) at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars after a brief illness. She had been hospitalized two weeks.

Hedvig Henrietta Alvina Schultz was born March 27, 1902, near Pierson in Woodbury county to Albert and Caroline Techau Schultz. She came to Plymouth county as a young woman and has since lived here. Her marriage to Walter Blackmore took place Feb. 8, 1922, at Sioux City. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church, Merrill.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s American Lutheran church, Merrill, with Rev. Harold Norheim officiating. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Terry, Darwin, Douglas and Lynn Blackmore; Maynard Schoen, Roy Hawkins, Randy Crippen and Lennis Hesebeck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Betty; nine grandchildren and four half brothers and three half sisters.

Survivors are her husband, Walter, Merrill; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Juanita) Schoen and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Crippen, both of Merrill, Mrs. Albert (Dorothy) Hesebeck of Sheldon and Mrs. Kenneth (Lorine) Hawkins of Maurice; six sons, Lawrence of Hinton, John and Orville, both of Merrill, Norman of Lennox, S. D.,Walter of Rochelle, Ill., andLarry of Omaha, Neb.

Also 32 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one brother, Otto Schultz of Merrill, and a half-sister, Mrs. Amanda Paul of Texas.
