Richard D. Crow

TRINIDAD, Colo.-Richard D. Crow, 57, of Trinidad, Colo., and a Plymouth County native, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Trinidad after a brief illness.

Richard D. Crow was born May 10, 1945, near Westfield, the son of Robert and Ruth (Dunham) Crow. He grew up in the Westfield and Merrill area, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1962. He entered the U.S. Air Force, serving in Germany. He married Vonda Wilson in Victorville, Calif., in 1966. Richard attended Freed Hardeman College in Tennessee, majoring in English and speech. He also attended Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond, Okla., and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, earning a bachelor of arts degree in English. He a was a man of varied talents and experiences, working as an electrician in the Air Force, baling for the National Cotton Compress Co., and assembling electrical circuit boards for sawmill equipment. However, he felt his most important job was ministering to people. He preached in various capacities at Biloxi, Miss., Shreveport, La., Gulfport, Miss., Minco and Chickasha, Okla., and Trinidad, Colo.

He married Diana Kilgore on Aug. 12, 1989, in Chickasha, Okla. They lived in Trinidad, Colo., for the past seven years. Richard was very involved in the community, serving on the boards of the library and senior center. He volunteered at the Colorado Welcome Center, Home Town Holidays, Friends and Newcomers and DAV (he was himself disabled). He was a chaplain for the Colorado State Patrol and for the Trinidad Correctional Facility. He especially enjoyed reading to children at the library and his work at the prison.

Survivors include his wife, Diana; a daughter, Heather Crow of Eldon, Mo.; a son, Richard Scott Crow of Chickasha, Okla.; a stepson, Matthew Kilgore of El Reno, Okla.; two brothers, Charles Crow of Merrill and Dennis Crow of El Toro, Calif.; four sisters, Donna Holtz of Merrill, Roberta Willett and Lois Galles, both of Le Mars, and Ruth Perrill of Corvallis, Ore. grandchildren, Elizabeth Crow, Nicole Crow and Richard David Crow; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 6, at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Chapel in Trinidad, Colo., with Gary Williams officiating. Memorials may be made to the Prison Ministry through the Church of Christ, 1000 Nevada Ave., Trinidad, Colo. 81082.
