AKRON, Iowa -- Betty Mae Jacobson, 71, of Akron died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at her son's home in Worthington, Minn.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Private family inurnment services will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. There is no visitation. Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jacobson was born June 3, 1930, in Akron, the daughter of Charles Lloyd and Stella Alice (Dunn) Dunham Sr. She attended school through the 11th grade and later attended college accounting classes.

She married Darrell LuVern Jacobson on May 1, 1945, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Jan. 16, 1973. She worked in various grocery stores and at Otis Radio. In 1968 she bought the HiWay Cafe, which she ran until 1980. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for many years.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Plymouth County, serving as president, unit president and secretary. She was the first woman on the Akron City Council in 1980. She helped start the Avenue of Flags in 1978 in Akron.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and reading.

Survivors include four sons, Garry and his wife, Cheryl of Akron, Clayton and his wife, Richelle of Akron, Darcy and his wife, Diana of Worthington, Minn., and Russell and his wife, Julie of Akron; two sisters-in-law, Nettie Dunham of Alcester, S.D., and Ruth Dunham of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, Eric, Darren, Tracy, Angela, Clayton D., Ryan, Jennifer, Justin, Staci, Serena and Sawyer; and several great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Leo, Walter, Donald, Roy, Robert, George, Charles and Elmer; and three sisters, Lois Friske, Ruth Crowe and Dorothy as an infant
