Ernest Anderson

Ernest Anderson departed this life early last Tuesday morning, December 16, 1975, at our Akron hospital, following a brief illness. He was 88 years of age.

Ernest Anderson was born in Limared, South Asarp Forsamling, Elfsborg Lan, Sweden, November 8, 1887. During infancy he was baptized as a member of his church and as a young man of 14 he was confirmed so that he became an adult member of the Lutheran Church in Sweden. He emigrated to America in April, 1906, and came almost immediately to this community. At first he secured employment on farms, then went into farming for himself, which he continued until retirement. His interest in farming never diminished. At a marriage service in Leeds north of Sioux City –February 20, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Johnson. She died in December, 1913.

Miss Anna Johnson became his wife at a wedding in Akron July 12, 1916. She passed away September 17, 1952. Mr. Anderson became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in October, 1914 and had been very active in his church during a period of over 60 years. To him his church and his God clearly took first place. In so many ways he showed this.

During nearly 70 years in which he lived among us here, he became well known all over this area and thus gained a wide circle of friends who regarded Ernest as a very thoughtful and kind person. In his concern for others, he did many a loving deed.

Among those who survive his departure are: his daughter, Mrs. LaVerne Dowling of Akron; his four sons, Henry Anderson of Sioux City, Russell, Milton and Stanley Anderson of Akron; his sister, Mrs. Hulda Johnson in Sweden; his 17 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Pfc. John Robert Dowling.

The funeral service in his memory was held at Immanuel Lutheran church last Thursday afternoon, December 18, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Phyllis Frisk was soloist and sang. "Love Came Down at Christmas" accompanied by Mrs. Carol Harris, organist. The Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night" was sung by the congregation.

Six grandsons of Mr. Anderson were casket bearers: Brad Anderson, Chace Anderson, Mark Anderson, Morey Anderson, Harold Dowling and Richard Dowling. Interment was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral home.
