MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR FORMER HINTON RESIDENT
Robert Bennett, 81, of Tucson, Arizona, and Spirit Lake, Iowa, and former longtime resident of Hinton died Sunday September 17, 2000, at his home in Tucson. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a. m. Friday at Hinton United Methodist Church. A lunch will follow the service. Mr. Bennett was born on March 2, 1919, in Webster County, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Ethel Bennett. Following graduation for Mooningside College, Robert reported to the United States Army in Corvallis, Oregon, where he and Kathryn Brown were married on November 23, 1943. Robert served in Europe during World War 11 and continued as a member of the American Legion for 51 years. Robert lived most of his life in Hinton, where he owned and operated an auto and implement dealership. Following retirement Bob could usually be found at the Okoboji View Golf Course in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Always active in the community and church, Robert served as a Boy Scout leader for 12 years and several years on the Plymouth County School Board. Robert was instrumental in reorganizing the original Hinton School District and was one of the founders and President of the Board of Directors of Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. Robert is survived by his wife Kathryn, three sons and their wives Robert R. and Jean of Storm Lake, Iowa; Bryron and Kathy of Tucson. Arizona; Clyde and Judy of Billings, Montana; a daughter Betty Baker of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; a sister Rowena Hurlbut Ames, Iowa.
