Mrs. Alsop Wakeman, a resident of Akron vicinity since the early 70s, received the final summons at her home in this city at 4:30 o'clock Sunday morning, April 26, 1926, after an illness of about two weeks of pneumonia and pleurisy. Everything possible was done for her, but at her advanced age, nearly 81 years, she was unable to rally against the severe affliction of illness.
Louisa Waterbury was born in Fairfield county, Conn., May 9, 1846, where she spent her girlhood days. She was united in marriage with Edward Bellwood on April 6, 1866, at New Canaan, Conn., and to this union two daughters and two sons were born—all of whom were at their mother's bedside when the end came. She is also survived by one brother, David Waterbury of Sioux City.
Mrs. Bellwood and children came west In the year 1872 and located in Union county, S. D. On November 11, 1874, she was united in marriage with Alsop Wakeman at Richland, S. D., and they made their home in Sioux Valley township, Union county, for many years, where in the early day of settlement they, experienced the hardships of pioneer life. About 10 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman retired from farm duties and came to Akron to make a home for the remainder of their allotted days. While they were living on the homestead in Union county, two children came to gladden their home, but both of them passed away in early childhood. She was a member of the Baptist church for many years. Owing to the weaknesses of advanced age she had been deprived or many of the privileges of life during the past few years, but she was always cheerful and thankful for the blessings that were hers to enjoy.
Funeral services were held in the First Baptist church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. A. L. Mac-Millian, the pastor. Interment was In Riverside cemetery.
