Larry M. Welch, 66, of Sioux City died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Larry was born March 8, 1939, to Michael and Dorothy (Johnson) Welch, in Elk Point, S.D. He grew up in the Westfield, Iowa area, where he graduated from Westfield High School in 1957. He worked at the Sioux City Stockyards for three years following high school. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and honorably discharged in 1963.

He married Mary Bruyer on Oct. 10, 1964, in Vermillion, S.D. The couple moved back to Sioux City, where he was a hog buyer for the Sioux City Stockyards until shortly before it closed. Later, he worked at SYA Parks in Riverside for three years.

He enjoyed the outdoors and had a green thumb for gardening, especially growing roses. He also enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, but most of all being with his family, wife, children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son and his wife, Larry and Kim Welch and their children, Nolan and Olivia of Hinton, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Laurie and Shawn Emge and their daughter Shaila of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Anne Lutgen of Ennis, Mont.; his mother, Dorothy Welch; and seven brothers, sisters and spouses, Teresa and Jack Carey, Lou and Beverly Welch, Ruth and Bill Hinton, Marlene and Ivan Wesseling, Kathaleen and Gordon Von Ahsen, Lynette Welch and Mike and Cleo Welch.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael; and a brother, Tommy.
