HOLD RITES LAST WEDNESDAY FOR C. EDWARD HEEREN
Well-Known Akron Man Had Been Lifelong Resident In This Area
Carl Edward Heeren departed this life on Monday morning, August 21, 1950, at about 2:30 o’clock, at his home in Akron, after a lingering illness. At the time of his death he was 69 years, 3 months and 9 days of age.
Mr. Heeren, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heeren, was born May 12, 1881, in Grant township, Plymouth county, Iowa, where he was baptized in infancy. On July 5, 1905, he took as his bride Miss Freda Jans. To this union were born five children, of whom four are still living. For about nine years they lived on a farm near Le Mars; then in 1914, they moved to their farm west of Akron, in Union county, S. D., where they lived until moving into Akron in May, 1947.
Since 1939 they have been active members of the Union Creek Lutheran church. It was clearly evident importance in his life. He found prayer to be a means of strength and sustaining power, particularly during the last several months.
Those who remain to mourn his departure include his wife, Freda; two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Heasley, of Vancouver, Wash, and Mrs. Edith Granstrom, of Elk Point, S. D.; tow sons, Wesley, of Alcester, S. D., and Elmer, of Elk Point; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Anderson and Mrs. Serolda Baldwin, of Merrill; twenty-one grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Among those preceding him in death were a daughter, Edith, in infancy; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon of last week at the Immanuel Lutheran church, preceded by a brief service at the hom. Pastor DAvid J. Roy officiated. A quartet composed of Harry nelson, Clifford and Arden Johnson and J. R. Shoulberg sang “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me” and “What a Friend We Have In Jesus.” Mrs. Alvin Frisk accompanied the quartet.
The pallbearers included five grandsons of the deceased; Wendell and Milo Granstrom; Kervyn, Raymond and Verne Heeren, and Raymond Nieland.
Honary pallbeaers were Olaf Nygard, N. P. Nielsen, Jos. Appley, Elmer Hultgren, Lewis Satter and lee Shedd.
