IRENE HODGINS
Irene Hodgins, 88, Holy Spirit Retirement Home died Monday, September 30, 1996, at the nursing home. Services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was at St. John Cemetery in Jackson, Nebraska. Mrs. Hodgins was born September 14, 1908, in Plainview, Nebraska, the daughter of Peter and Nellie (Copps) Smith. She married Daniel Hodgins in 1926 in Willis, Nebraska. He died January 9, 1962, in Sioux City. She came to Sioux City from Plainview seventy years ago. Mrs. Hodgins was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include eight sons and spouses Jim and Bev, Pat and Shirley, Paul and Margo, Bill and Joan, Steve and Mary, Ron and Deb, Douglas Hodgins, all of Sioux City; Emmett and Robyn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands Donna and Jim Young of Hinton, Iowa; Rose and Jerry McNaughton of Sioux City; Margaret and Gordon Schmeckpeper of Pender, Nebraska; 39 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Lorraine Smith of Crofton, Nebraska. She preceded in death by four Robert, Jerry, Thomas, and an infant son; a daughter Betty Newburn, a brother Ed Smith, and three sisters, Helen Clark, Mabel Kellogg and Ruth Smith.
