Note: The children's obituaries spell the last name Collmann. His wife’s maiden name was Helgens.

Henry C. Collman, one of the pioneers of Plymouth county, died at his home in Preston township on Saturday following a long and painful illness from cancer, during which he suffered greatly.

Mr. Collman was a native of Germany, where he was born in 1838, and came to this county when a young man. Coming West he located near Monticello and in 1872 came to Plymouth county, homesteading in Preston township, where he has since resided. With his wife and family he battled through the hardships of the early settler days and their toil and industry was rewarded by the acquirement of a comfortable fortune and many years of happiness and enjoyment. To them eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy.

Those surviving with the aged mother to mourn the loss of a good husband and father are, Lewis, Henry, and John, all residing in the home vicinity; Mrs. Henry Theilen, of Le Mars; Mrs. Gert Theilen, of Grant township, and Mrs. Louis Borchers, of Preston township.

Mr. Collman was highly respected in the community by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

The funeral will be held at one o’clock today at the Grant township Lutheran church, Rev. J. D. Meyer officiating, and the interment will be made in the cemetery at that place.
