DEATH SUMMONS BRUNSVILLE MAN
Last Rites Held for Henry Johnson in Grant Township Wednesday
Henry Gerdes Johnson, aged 77, a well known resident of Brunsville, passed away at his home shortly before midnight Sunday, October 24, 1937, following an illness of about ten days of heart trouble and pneumonia.
Mr. Johnson was born at Werdun, Ost. Friesland, Germany, September 21, 1860, and came to America in 1882. He spent a year in Illinois and then came to Iowa and farmed until he retired a few years ago. He was married in Germany, March 10, 1882, to Helena Rolapp, who survives him. Nine children were born to them, four of who preceded him in death.
The surviving children are: Mrs. William Borchers, of Preston township; Mrs. Dena Diedeker, of Brunsville; Martin Johnson, of Preston township; John Johnson, of Grant township and Edward J. Johnson, of Holstein, Iowa. He has a sister and brother living in Germany.
Mr. Johnson was a fine citizen, who enjoyed the respect of the community.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, at 1 o’clock from the residence and at 1:30 in the Grant Township Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. Schempp. Interment was in the church cemetery.
