Carol Tooker, 78, of Merrill passed away peacefully Wednesday morning surrounded by family at her home near Merrill, Iowa, after a courageous battle with malignant melanoma.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday October 14, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Tim Geitz officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 5:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Carol Louise Junck was born May 11, 1935 on the family farm near Hinton, Iowa to Harold and Viola (Hageman) Junck. She received her education in Hinton School. Carol was united in marriage to Harold Tooker on February 10, 1952 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Leeds, Iowa. Carol and Harold farmed their entire married life near Merrill.
Carol was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She also attended Calvary Lutheran in Leeds and also St. John Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran of Merrill where she taught Sunday School for forty-one years.
She was a very loving part in raising her grandchildren.
She enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Especially time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as she attended their many activities.
Carol and Harold were involved in many things over the years, including square dancing, card clubs, snowmobiling, Merrill Community Club and Lions Club.
The couple enjoyed spending the last thirteen winters in Georgetown, Texas. While in Texas, Carol and Harold enjoyed helping their grandson, Chad with his business. Carol enjoyed being the “official greeter” at his office.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold of Merrill; her children: Connie Sitzmann and her husband Michael of Merrill, Randal Tooker and his wife Ella of Le Mars, Dennis Tooker and his wife Joy of Orange City, and Tammy Arnold and her husband Kevin of Merrill; 11 grandchildren: Chad Sitzmann of Austin, TX, Shawn (Shane) Keizer of Dakota Dunes, SD, Joseph (Bobbie) Sitzmann of Le Mars, Kari (John) Blythe of Austin, TX, Nicholas (Amanda) Tooker of Canyon Lake, TX, Kristin Tooker of Austin, TX, Jamie Tooker of Orange City, Katie (Jon) Jeltema of Orange City, Brian (Crisinda) Tooker of Orange City, Trevor Arnold of Minneapolis, MN, Tera (Kevin) Brown of Cherokee; 5 step grandchildren: Katie (Brady) Riessen of Sioux City, Kyle (Brittany) Diede of Maurice, IA, Curtis(Gladys) Sitzmann of LeMars, Jannie Sitzmann, Akron and Jacob Sitzmann of Sioux City; 18 great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Kolby, Mackenzie Keizer, Jami and Eli Sitzmann, Logan Blythe, Caleb and Cody Tooker, Trenton, Cale, Brenna and Taya Tooker, Austin, Luke, and Adyson Jeltema, Jackson and Kaleigh Tooker, and Blake Brown; 3 step great grandchildren: Jaxon, Kenna, and Zoey. She is also survived by a sister, Garnet (Dennis) Blankenburg of Minnesota; 2 brothers, Ron (Marla) Junck of Sioux City and Gary Junck of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 sisters-in-law, Evelyn “Sis” Woll of Le Mars, Bonnie DeRocher of Le Mars, and Francis “Toots” (Darrell) Pranke of Sioux City; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chad Sitzmann, Joseph Sitzmann, Nicholas Tooker, Jamie Tooker, Brian Tooker, and Trevor Arnold. Honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters, Shawn Keizer, Kari Blythe, Kristin Tooker, Katie Jeltema, and Tera Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Viola (Hageman) Junck; a daughter-in-law, Lori Tooker; a granddaughter, Alisa Tooker, her in-laws, Harold and Leona Tooker and a brother-in-law Harvey Tooker.
