DEATH CLAIMS RESIDENT HERE SIXTY YEARS
John Weidenfeller Was Popular Hotel Keeper in LeMars In Early Days
Death claimed John Weidenfeller, 72, a resident of Plymouth county for sixty years at the Sacred Heart hospital In this city, Wednesday morning, following a lingering Illness. He had been in failing health for several years
Mr. Weidenfeller was born February 27, 1862, in Germany and when a boy of twelve came to America with his parents. They came directly to Le Mara and settled on a farm ten miles west of town. John Weidenfeller grew up on the farm and attended school and later engaged in farming on his own account.
Mr. Weidenfeller moved to LeMars in 1894 and for several years operated the Farmers Hotel on Clarke Street, now known as Second Avenue SW. Disposing of the hotel business he moved to Norfolk, Neb., where he lived for six years and then lived in Texas for seven years. The family moved back to Plymouth county in 1919 and he engaged in farming here again and of late years lived on a farm east of Le Mars
Mr. Weidenfeller was united in marrlage August 20, 1888, with Miss Emma Eulberg at Sioux City.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, three sons and two daughters Anthone and Leo, of Le Mars, Felix of Plainview, Neb.. Mrs. P. L. Peterson, of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Louis Heeren, of Hawarden, and two brothers, Anton Weidenfeller, of Merrill, and Chris Weidenfeller, of Le Mars, and five grondchlldren.
Funeral This Morning
Last rites will be held this morning at 9 o'clock in St. Joseph church with Mgr. J. D. Fisch officiating and interment made in St. Joseph cemetery.
Mr. Weidenfeller was a member of the order of Eagles. He was widely known in the county and enjoyed the friendship and esteem of a large number whose friendship was lifelong.
Poster's note: According to the 1925 Iowa census for Plymouth County, John Weidenfeller was the son of Emma (Schenkelberg) and Adam Weidenfeller.
