Robert Wick Died Suddenly

Funeral Services Were Held For Well-Known Le Mars Man Today

The community was shocked early Tuesday morning, February 4th to learn of the death of Robert William Wick, 515 3rd Ave. S.E., Le Mars. Mr. Wick, though in failing health for the past 8 years, was apparently feeling well Monday night and attended the Company D dinner at which time he was awarded a service ribbon for 5 years of service with the organization. He held the position of heating engineer at the Le Mars high school and during bad weather had been sleeping in the building. He was left there Monday night by several other members of Company D and his death apparently came shortly after as he was still wearing his uniform. The discovery was made shortly before 7 o’clock on Tuesday morning by another janitor of the building, Andrew Juhl.

Robert William Wick was born on March 17, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wick at Afton, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Helen Bray in Le Mars, Iowa, on June 16, 1920. Before coming to Le Mars nine years ago, they made their home in Sioux City and Tyndall, S.D. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Tyndall, S.D., and of Company D, State Guard, in Le Mars. He was affiliated with the Methodist church.

Rev. Siebert, Co. D. Chaplain, and Rev. J. J. Share, pastor of the First Methodist church, conducted the funeral service from Mauer’s Funeral home at 2:00 o’clock this afternoon. Burial was in the Le Mars city cemetery.

Mr. Wick leaves to survive his wife, Helen, and three daughters, Bette, Bonny, and Barbara, and one sister, Mrs. Art Hansen of Le Mars.
