JAY PEEBLES PASSES AWAY
Was Early Settler In The CommunityJay Peebles, retired farmer and well known resident of Ireton and LeMars for many years, died at his home, Thursday night in this city.
Jay Peebles was born in New York state and was 83 years and 9 months old at the time of his death. When he was a child, he moved with his parents to Wisconsin where he grew to young manhood. The family came to Iowa and trekked across the state in a covered wagon and settled on a farm in Sioux county. He farmed with other members of the family and after his marriage with Mary E. Woodall, he farmed on his own account near Ireton. On returning from the farm, he came to LeMars to live. Mrs. Peebles died eighteen years ago.
The Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Wiltgen Funeral Home. Rev. G. O. Thompson officiated at the services and interment was made in the City Cemetery.
Jay Peebles was a good citizen and neighbor and was well known and liked by associates who were friends during many years.

NOTE: Date of death per this article was Thursday, December 30, 1943. Mary E. Peebles is buried in LeMars City Cemetery, Block 7. Her date of death was April 11, 1926.
